From the First Good Shepherd Principal
In 1957, the congregation at First Good Shepherd Lutheran Church invested in the youngsters of Southern Nevada by building their first educational unit, opening with grades one and two in August of 1958. The school began to grow and in 1974, it was decided that a second building was indeed necessary to accommodate all classes from kindergarten - sixth grade. Finally, in 2006, a major building project including an early childhood center, a full service kitchen, a safekey room, classes for grades K-2 and an entire area for the 3 and 4 year old preschool would continue this amazing growth.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the oldest private Protestant Christian school in Nevada, the third building was dedicated in 2008. In spite of the fact that this school is located not more than a mile from the downtown area, families continue to enroll year-after-year because of the outstanding reputation of the quality Christian education that is being provided at First Good Shepherd Lutheran School. Many parents are willing to drive from 8-25 miles for the benefit of granting their children the opportunity to attend our school. We are blessed with the dedication of these parents.
The excellent faculty members of this school have served in their classroom for an average of 12 years which has given great stability to the total program along with a wonderful support staff with five teachers' aides, a Spanish teacher, a complete music program with a 40 voice choir, and a band program for grades 3-6. For those who are interested in athletics, our school also provides competitive sports in co-ed volleyball, a girls basketball team and a boys basketball team for grades 5 & 6, and a track team for grades K-6.
Best of all, we are interested in each child who comes through our doors so that they may grow academically, emotionally, physically, and especially spiritually.
